Tariq ibn Ziyad is a legendary commander in Rise of Kingdoms (specializing in “Infantry,” “Conquest,” and “Skill”). The Conqueror of Spain is an aggressive infantry commander: he burns his ships behind him and drives his troops to fight to the death. His skills strengthen his unit as casualties mount—in the spirit of his famous speech at Gibraltar.

Historical Background

Tariq ibn Ziyad—a Berber military leader who landed in Spain in 711 and defeated the Visigoths at Guadalete. Gibraltar (Jebel Tariq—“Tariq’s Mountain”) is named in his honor.

Players call Tarik the “kamikaze of infantry”: his charge is most dangerous when he’s nearly defeated. Recommended for attrition battles near objectives. The downside is that healing such losses is expensive.

Taric is a “last stand” commander: don’t use his March prematurely—his damage peaks when his health is low. Stock up on healing boosts before KvK.
