Genshin Impact - a free action-RPG with an open world from a Chinese studio miHoYo (global brand HoYoverse). The player controls the Traveler, a wanderer searching for a lost twin in the fantasy world of Teyvat, where seven regions obey the seven elements and seven Archon gods. The game is completely free: the entire story and open world are available without investments, and in-game purchases are limited to prayers for new characters and weapons.

When and by whom was it created?

Development began in 2017 at the Shanghai studio miHoYo, known for the Honkai series. The project became the most ambitious in the company's history: the development budget was estimated at $100 million - a record for a Chinese game at that time. The official release took place on September 28, 2020 simultaneously on PC, iOS, Android and PlayStation 4 (later PS5). In the first year, the game earned more than two billion dollars on mobile devices alone and turned miHoYo into one of the leaders in the global gaming industry.

How popular: numbers

Six years after its release, Genshin Impact remains one of the most played games on the planet. For August 2026:

over 300 million registered accounts all over the world;
16–21 million active players per month on all platforms;
about 3.8 million players daily;
peak online on major updates - about 1.1 million simultaneously;
over 239 million mobile downloads throughout history;
audience by platform: 65% mobile, 25% PC, 10% PlayStation.

The Russian-speaking community is one of the largest and most active in the world, and the release of the snowy region Snezhnaya in version 7.0 (August 12, 2026) caused a particular surge of interest in the CIS.

Genshin Impact is one of the highest grossing games in history. Total player spending across all platformsexceeded $10 billion by the end of 2025 — no mobile game has reached this mark faster. Dynamics of mobile revenue by year (only iOS and Google Play, without PC and consoles):

By August 2026, there are eight large regions in the game, each with its own element, culture and Archon:

Li Yue (Geo) - a trading harbor in the spirit of imperial China (1.0);
Inazuma (Electro) - an island nation based on Shogunate-era Japan (2.0);
Sumeru (Dendro) - region of wisdom, jungle and desert (3.0);
Fontaine (Hydro) - stylized France of the steampunk and theater era (4.0);
Natlan(Piro) - region of war and tribal competition (5.0);
Nod's Land — autonomous region on the Snezhnaya border (6.0, September 2025);
Snezhnaya (Krio) - the northern empire of Fatui and the Queen (7.0, August 2026), the final chapter of the first book of history.
