How to Properly Send Troops to a Fort or an Enemy Attack

Whichever commanders lead a rally determines the troop type you should send into it. Here is the table of the main rally commanders by troop type:

An important nuance: the wrong troop type in a rally gets no commander bonuses and dies first — alliance officers will call you out for "diluting" the march, and serious alliances will exclude you from future rallies altogether.

A Tip for Beginners: Upgrading Troop Tiers

For those just starting out: already-trained troops can be upgraded directly in the barracks/stable/archery range with a special button — no need to dismiss T2 and train T3 from scratch:

Upgrading a tier costs the difference in resources and time between tiers — always cheaper than training new-tier units from zero. Do it in batches during training-speedup events.

Where to Get Golden Sculptures (Golden Heads)

VIP levels 10, 12 and 14: 1, 2 and 3 heads per day in daily chests;
Golden keys and golden chests in the Tavern;
Event participation: Karuak, Ark of Osiris, Mightiest Governor, Lucerne scrolls and others;
Daily chests ("deal of the day") — a chance of sculptures for a specific commander;
The "Living Legend" bundle at levels 4 and 5 — 1 and 2 heads respectively;
The "History Writer" pack after activating a golden commander — 10 heads;
Top-up bonus rewards: at least 2,500 gems a day, 5 days in a row — 10 heads each on days 2, 4 and 5;
Roulettes and wheels of fortune with legendary commanders;
The Lost Kingdom shop and KvK season rewards.

The main advice about heads: don't spread them across every legendary at once. Pick one target for your troop type and push it to 5511 or expertise — a half-built legendary is weaker than a fully maxed epic Sun Tzu.

Fresh Tips for 2026

Gems go only into VIP and key events. Don't burn gems on building speedups: save for VIP points up to VIP 10 (a golden head every day) and for events like "More Than Luck" (a wheel with guaranteed rewards);
Action points should never sit idle. Bank AP before barbarian events, and on normal days spend it on forts and farming — resources and commander experience are never wasted;
The Courier Station shop — every day. It sells speedups and materials for resources at up to 70% off — the best daily exchange in the game;
Sunset Canyon — 5 fights daily. Even defeats pay coins toward equipment blueprints: the Gatekeeper's Shield and other epic blueprints come only from here;
The alliance decides everything. Alliance helps shorten every build and research, alliance technologies give permanent buffs, and territory means safe farming. A weak player in a strong alliance grows faster than a strong loner;
Don't scatter universal sculptures. One maxed pairing beats three half-built ones (details in our commander pairings guide);
Hospitals always empty before a fight. An overflowing hospital turns wounded into dead — read our breakdown of troop death mechanics;
Migration — before City Hall 25 and by the rules. If your server is dying, don't cling to the account: migrate to a living server while your power still fits the cap.

Veterans on Reddit and in community guides repeat the same truths. About gems: "The only correct gem spend at the start is VIP. Everything else you can farm." About sculptures: "A maxed Sun Tzu is more useful than five legendaries at 5111 — depth beats breadth." About the daily routine: "Canyon, Courier Station, alliance helps and the blacksmith queue — five minutes a day that over a year outproduce any donation." And about the main thing: "Rise of Kingdoms is a marathon. The winner is not the one who paid more, but the one who did the right small things every day."
