Shapur I is a legendary commander in Rise of Kingdoms (specializations: “Archers,” “Conquest,” and “Skill”). The Sassanid Shah who captured the Roman emperor is an archer with “fire” damage: his arrows set targets ablaze and enhance subsequent volleys. The Persian scourge of the Roman legions.

Historical Background

Shapur I was the Shahanshah of 3rd-century Sassanid Persia, who defeated the Romans three times and took Emperor Valerian captive—the only such instance in Roman history.

Players say: Shapur is the “Persian arsonist.” His AoE damage is consistent and isn’t affected by miss hits from his nuke. Recommended against tanks: his fire pierces through armor.

Tips

Target already burning enemies—Shapur’s damage boost is tied to the burn effect. Works well in pairs with other “pyromaniacs.” Weak against marsh anti-debuff abilities.
