Alp Arslan is a legendary commander in Rise of Kingdoms (specializing in “Archers,” “Skill,” and “Mobility”). The Seljuk sultan who crushed the Byzantine Empire at Manzikert is an archer with nomadic speed: rapid volleys and mobility rarely seen in archer units.

Historical Background

Alp Arslan (“Lion Hero”) was the second Seljuk sultan. In 1071, at Manzikert, he defeated the Byzantine army and captured Emperor Romanos IV—this battle opened Anatolia to the Turks.

Skill Overview

Mancikert (active skill)

Deals damage to the selected target and speeds up the unit’s march. Alp Arslan’s main tool: the attack lands quickly, and the speed bonus allows him to change position immediately after firing or catch up to a retreating enemy. In prolonged battles, this skill triggers more frequently than for most archers, thanks to accelerated Rage build-up.

Lion Hero

Passive bonuses to attack and movement speed for archers. It is this skill that makes Alp Arslan’s unit the fastest-marching archer unit in the game: you choose your battles yourself and withdraw from unfavorable ones.

Turkish Arrow

Accelerated Rage Build-up: This active skill recharges significantly faster than standard. Paired with the “Burning Blood” talent, the volley cycle turns into a veritable machine gun—the foundation of the commander’s entire damage output.

Gates of Anatolia

Increased damage against retreating and weakened targets. Finishing Move: Alp Arslan is especially dangerous at the end of a battle when the enemy tries to flee. This pairs perfectly with his speed—it’s nearly impossible to escape him.

Expertise (Awakening)

Speeds up the burst cycle and enhances finishing blows. An awakened Alp Arslan receives a significant boost to the frequency and power of his bursts—it is after gaining Expertise that he reaches meta-level status.

Skill Priority

5-5-1-1 → 5555. This rare combination of archery and mobility is fully realized at 5555: the third and fourth skills provide cooldown speed and follow-up damage; without them, the commander loses half his value.

How to Level Up Talents

The build’s foundation is the “Archers” and “Skill” trees; the remaining points go into “Mobility.”

Levels 1–20: “Skill” tree—immediately take “Burning Blood” (rage for basic attacks) and move toward “Rejuvenation” (rage regeneration after using a skill). This is the heart of the build: the more often you fire a volley, the higher the damage.
Levels 20–40: “Archers” branch—take “Sharp Arrows” (archer attack), “Rapid Fire,” and “Poisonous Sting” (skill damage). Pick “Armed and Armored” for survivability.
Levels 40–50: Max out “Tactical Mastery” and “Clarity” in the “Skill” tree—for even more Fury and skill damage.
Levels 50–60: Invest the remaining points in “Mobility”: talents for march speed and garrison damage, if you plan on raiding.

This build maximizes rage per battle: “Mancikerta” volleys fire almost nonstop, and your squad remains the fastest on the map.

Double tempo control: your Fury soars while the enemy’s drags. A strong duo for protracted battles at objectives.
