Bai Qi - commander of Rise of Kingdoms: skills, talents, connections (2026)
This information is current as of August 2026.
Bai Qi is a legendary commander in Rise of Kingdoms (specializing in “Infantry,” “Skill,” and “Conquest”). The “God of Death” of the Warring States period is a ruthless infantryman: his skills punish the weakened and finish off those in retreat. A commander for those who take no prisoners.
Historical Background
Bai Qi was a general of the Qin state who never lost a single battle in 37 years of campaigns. He was the victor at Changping (260 BCE), where, according to legend, 400,000 soldiers from the State of Zhao were annihilated. Chinese chronicles refer to him as “Ren Tu”—“The Butcher.”

Skill Overview
Changping (Active Skill)
Deals direct damage to the selected target; the more casualties the target has suffered, the higher the damage. This is the key to understanding Bai Qi: against a full squad, the skill deals decent damage but isn’t outstanding; however, against a squad that has lost a third of its members, the damage figures become some of the highest among all infantry units in the game. Against a target with only a few percent of health remaining, “Changping” is an almost guaranteed finishing blow.
God of Death
Passive bonuses to infantry attack and skill damage. A solid, unconditional permanent boost: it works at the start of battle, at the end, on the field, and during rallies. It is this skill that makes Bai Qi not only a finisher but also simply a powerful infantry nuke.
No Mercy
Increased damage against weakened units. Triggers on targets with low health and stacks with the active skill’s mechanics: the lower an enemy’s health, the more damage each hit deals—whether a regular attack or a skill. In a protracted skirmish where all targets are battered, this skill is in constant use.
37 Years Unbeaten
A chance to deal additional damage when destroying enemy units. In large-scale battles, where Bai Qi’s unit constantly mows down the wounded, this skill triggers regularly and gradually accumulates a massive total bonus. Against a full garrison, its value is lower—units die slowly.
Expertise (Awakening)
Enhances finishing blows and nuke damage: the “No Mercy” thresholds become more lenient, and “Changping” deals even more damage to wounded units. An awakened Bai Qi is a full-fledged second-line meta infantry unit.
Leveling Priority
5-5-1-1 → 5555. Level up the active skill and “God of Death” first—these form the foundation of his damage. “No Mercy” and “37 Years Unbeaten” define his unique role as a finisher, so to play him in the meta, Bai Qi is maxed out to 5555.
How to Level Up Talents
The build is based on the “Infantry” and “Skill” trees.
- Levels 1–20: “Skill” tree—“Burning Blood” (fury from normal attacks) and the path to “Rejuvenation.” The more often “Changping” is used, the faster wounded targets die.
- Levels 20–40: “Infantry” tree—“Battle Spirit,” infantry health and attack, “Iron Spear” against cavalry.
- Levels 40–50: “Tactical Mastery” and “Clarity”—more rage and skill damage.
- Levels 50–60: Invest the remainder in infantry defense nodes: Bai Qi operates as a second wave and must survive the initial focus.
Best Combinations
Bai Qi + Chok Jung-yeong
The perfect destruction combo: CJ, as the lead, takes out half a target’s health with a powerful nuke, while Bai Qi finishes them off, maximizing the benefits of his threshold bonuses. Place CJ as the lead—his damage will clear the way for Bai Qi.
Bai Qi + Guan Yu
Guan Yu's Fan attack takes out multiple targets at once, and each one becomes prime prey for "Changping." A powerful combo for large skirmishes where there are many targets, all of which are battered.
Bai Qi + Xiang Yu
Two conquerors: Xiang Yu wears down the target’s defenses with debuffs, while Bai Qi converts that into pure damage. An aggressive option for rallies and assaults.
Bai Qi + Sargon the Great
A more durable option: Sargon provides resilience and support, while Bai Qi handles the damage. For players who prioritize the cost of healing after a battle.
Player Feedback
Players say: Bai Qi is a “meat grinder” and one of the most enjoyable infantry units of the season. In battles where the enemy has already faltered, his march turns him into a finishing machine: stats show that the lion’s share of his damage is dealt in the final third of the battle. The downside is acknowledged frankly: against fresh, full marches, his threshold bonuses barely work, and in a head-to-head duel at the start, he falls short of all-rounders like CJ. Recommended for those who like to play from the second echelon and clear out enemies.
Tips
Keep Bai Qi in the second wave: let your allies wear down the targets, and he’ll finish them off. In a group fight, switch him to the most battered units—don’t be lazy about clicking; micro-management doubles his effectiveness. Excellent for mopping up the battlefield after a victory and for finishing off enemies retreating toward the city. Don’t throw him into even duels at the start of the battle, and don’t use him as the lead unit in a rush against a fresh garrison—his threshold bonuses kick in too late in those situations.
