99 Nights in the Forest: guide to surviving until the 99th night

Information is current as of August 2026.

99 Nights in the Forest is a co-op survival game where you have to survive 99 nights in a forest full of monsters. The main enemies are darkness and Deer; the main ally is the fire. The guide will take you from the first night to a stable base.

Basic rules of survival

  • The fire is the center of life.Monsters are afraid of light. Upgrading the fire (to level 6) expands the safe zone and opens up new stages of the game.
  • Day is for production, night is for defense. The day phase lasts about 6–7 minutes, the night phase 3–5. Plan your outings so that you can return to the fire before dark.
  • It's easier to play in a teambut the difficulty also increases with the size of the squad (1–5 players). Distribute roles: woodcutter, hunter, builder, scout.

Day 1: Foundation

  1. Chop down a tree right away - at the beginning of the game there is guaranteed to be coal or a bunch of logs nearby, use them to quickly pump up the fire.
  2. Raise the fire to level 2-3 on the first day.
  3. Eat: kill rabbits and cook meat over a fire, or collect carrots and berries.
  4. Don't be afraid of the first night: The deer doesn't attack on the first night - use the darkness to extract resources near the camp.

Days 2–4: Tools and Basics

  1. Get ithare's footand other flesh - the Pelt Trader will exchange skins for a backpack, ax and other equipment.
  2. Upgrade the Crafting Bench and build a Crock Pot: three carrots turn into a stew that replenishes half your hunger bar. A couple vegetable beds plus a Crock Pot means almost endless food.
  3. Craft your first weapon (spear) and first aid kits.
  4. Surround the camp with simple barriers, think about escape routes to the fire.

Fuel: what to feed the fire

  • Level 1–2:logs and coal.
  • Level 3:logs give almost no growth - look for coal and canisters on forays.
  • Level 4–5:build a biofuel processor and process the meat of killed monsters into biofuel (keep some of the meat for food).
  • Level 5+:An oil derrick aimed at a fire supplies it with barrels automatically.
  • Important: chairs and furniture from houses are an excellent resource (chair = 5 units of wood or 5 scrap metal), do not burn them in vain.

Rescue of missing children

There are caves with missing children scattered around the map - rescuing them gives multipliers that accelerate progress until the 99th night. Rescue the first one (Dino Kid) between days 1 and 3. The caves are guarded by wolves: circle around them with a spear or katana, use bear traps or weapons with area damage (Lazer Cannon, Wildfire).

Common mistakes made by newbies

  • Burning logs in a pumped-up fire - from level 2 they give almost nothing, but will bring more benefits to the table.
  • Going far from the camp at night - darkness and Deer do not forgive.
  • Ignore hunger: Carry at least one stew with you “just in case.”
  • Spend diamonds on cosmetics at the beginning - upgrade your backpack, tools and weapons first.
