Parental Controls in Roblox: Roblox Kids, Roblox Select and Security Settings

In 2026, Roblox significantly overhauled its security system for children: separate types of Roblox Kids (5-8 years old) and Roblox Select (9-15 years old) accounts appeared with stricter default settings, and parents received a full-fledged control panel. Let's look at how to set everything up step by step.

Step 1. Link your parent's account

Without linking a parent account (Family Pairing), the child can disable any restrictions himself. So start with this:

Create your own Roblox account using an email address that your child does not have access to.
In your child’s account, open “Settings” → “Parental Controls” → “Add Parent” and enter your email.
Follow the link from the letter, log into your account and confirm your age using a document or bank card.
Click “Agree” - the accounts will be linked, and you will see a parent panel with game statistics, friend requests and spending. Up to five children's accounts can be linked to one parent.

Step 2: Set a Parent PIN

In the child’s account: “Settings” → “Security” → “Parental PIN code”. Without a PIN, all restrictions are removed from the application in a couple of clicks - this is the most important and most often skipped step. Keep the code where the child will not find it.

Step 3. Set up content age rating

“Settings” → “Parental Controls” → “Content Restrictions” → “Age Rating”. Each game on the platform has one of four categories:

Minimal- rare mild violence and light frightening moments (by default for Roblox Kids);
Mild- repeated mild violence and crude humor;
Moderate- moderate violence (by default from 13 years old);
Restricted- only for those who have confirmed their age 17+.

For children under 9, a reasonable choice is Minimal or Mild, for children 9–12 – Mild. And don’t forget to check your account’s date of birth: Roblox doesn’t check age when registering, and someone else’s default settings will work with an incorrect date.

Step 4: Limit communication

The “Communication” section in parental controls. There are two types of settings:

Chat in games— public messages within modes;
Personal communication- private messages, friends, chat with friends and voice chat (the latter is only available with trusted friends and is disabled for everyone under 13).

For younger children, set "Nobody" in both categories, for 9-12 years old - "Only friends." Please note: the settings do not apply to chats that the game authors made themselves - look at what games your child plays most often.

Step 5: Block specific games and set up purchases

Game blocking:“Content restrictions” → “Blocked games” - find a game by name and block it, even if its rating is appropriate.
Spending limit:set a monthly limit for Robux purchases and enable spending notifications - the parent panel will show how much was spent and in which games.
Screen Time:Roblox Kids and Select (9-12) have daily time limits available - once the limit is reached, the game will close until the next day.
Friends list:in the parent's panel you can view the child's friends, block and report suspicious users.

What settings don't cover

The restrictions apply only to the linked account: a child can create a new account in a couple of minutes, and it will be outside your settings. Therefore, technical measures work together with a conversation: explain to the child that you cannot give out your login and password, follow links “to free robux” and communicate with strangers outside the game.
