William Marshal in Rise of Kingdoms: Guide to the New Legendary Commander (2026)
This information is current as of August 2026.
Lilith Games has officially introduced William Marshal—a new legendary cavalry commander in Rise of Kingdoms. His skill set was revealed on August 8, 2026, and it’s already clear that the developers are serious about raising the bar. Marshal is designed to dominate open fields and hunt down archer garrisons.
Who Is William Marshal?
His historical counterpart is William Marshal, 1st Earl of Pembroke (1146–1219), the “greatest knight” of medieval England. In the game, he has been assigned the Cavalry / Conquest / Combo talent trees and the role of rally leader for cities and fortresses.
Commander Skills
- Reigning Champion (active, 1,000 Rage): A series of combo attacks targeting 3 targets in a fan pattern—damage multipliers 1,000 / 900 / 800 (total 2,700), plus a 25% reduction in targets’ march speed and healing for 3 seconds.
- Le-Man’s Legend: +35% attack and +20% cavalry march speed. During a rally, each attack (friendly or enemy) grants 10 stacks of “Unshakable Spirit” (up to 100); for every 40 stacks, the rally gains +20% defense for 3 seconds.
- King’s Regent: When attacking a city or fortress, the army takes 10% less damage; cavalry deals +25% damage to archers; and normal attacks have a 30% chance to reduce the target’s defense by 10% (stacks up to -30%).
- Count-Marshal: Every 8 attacks/counterattacks, the unit burns 80 stacks of Spirit and performs a combo attack on 3 targets (multiplier 400, cooldown 5 seconds).
- Templar Knight (Expertise): At 100 Spirit stacks—instantly grants +30 Rage, +15% to combo damage, and +10% to counterattacks for 5 seconds.
Talents, Combinations, and Investments
The minimum viable skill build is 5511: this already makes for a combat-ready commander without a full set of sculptures. The best formation is “Wedge” (it enhances his multi-stage active skill). Top synergy pairs: Ivan IV—for powerful cavalry charges; Subedey—the MVP duo for charges; Gan Gam-chang and David IV—for open-field combat.
Is it worth leveling up?
If you’re the alliance’s main rally leader and are fighting against archer garrisons, the Marshal seems like a nearly mandatory acquisition: his combo mechanics pierce through defenses, and his built-in damage reduction prevents him from being a “glass cannon.” He’s also strong for open-field players—thanks to his march speed and the ability to cut down on enemy healing.
