Rise of Kingdoms: legendary commanders William Marshall and Ivan IV - new cavalry meta
Anniversary update 1.1.11 brought Rise of Kingdoms not only festive events, but also two new legendary commanders: William Marshal and Ivan IV . Both work on cavalry and use the relatively fresh Combo Attack mechanic, which has already reshaped the open field meta.
William Marshall: king of sieges and rallies
William Marshall is designed for cavalry, conquest and combo attacks. His skills deal damage to several targets around the main one and apply debuffs, and Unwavering Spirit stacks allow him to provoke additional hits. The main use is for rallies and attacks on buildings, but in the open field it is also not useless.
Ivan IV: control and terror
Ivan the Terrible is a more versatile cavalry commander. Its mechanics Tsar's Decree and Tsar's Authority strengthen their own troops and weaken the enemy: combo attacks apply the Terror effect, which reduces the enemy's attack and march speed. Paired with William Marshall, we get one of the most unpleasant duets of the current patch for battles in the open field.
What does this change for players?
- Cavalry is getting a second wind: Combo Attack pairs are displacing some of the infantry formations in mobile battles.
- Sieges and rallies against buildings will become faster - William Marshall is seriously hitting the garrisons.
- Investments in new commanders will not pay off immediately: first level up the basic skills to the maximum before entering the field.
Both commanders are available through regular game activities in Patch 1.1.11 - keep an eye on the Wheel of Fortune and Anniversary events to collect sculptures without spending extra money.
