Historical background

Siyaj K'ak' was a military leader of Teotihuacan who established his city's rule over the Maya of Petén in the 4th century. His arrival at Tikal in 378 is referred to by Mayan inscriptions as “the arrival”—one of the turning points of pre-Columbian America.
