Flavius Aetius is a legendary commander in Rise of Kingdoms (specializing in “Infantry,” “Garrison,” and “Defense”). “The Last Roman,” who stopped Attila, is a defensive infantry unit: he strengthens garrisons, deflects damage, and punishes besiegers. In an ironic twist of fate, in the game he is the polar opposite of his historical enemy.
Historical Background
Flavius Aetius was a 5th-century Roman general who assembled a coalition against the Huns and defeated Attila at the Battle of the Catalaunian Fields in 451. He was executed on the orders of Emperor Valentinian III.
How to Obtain Flavius Aetius

- Fields of Catalaunian (active): deals damage to besiegers and boosts the garrison’s defense
- The Last Roman: Health and defense bonuses for garrison infantry
- Coalition Against the Huns: Aura: Boosts neighboring allied garrisons
- Shield of the West: Reflects a portion of damage back to attackers
- Expertise: Enhances damage reflection and defensive buffs
Upgrade Priority
5-5-1-1 → 5555 for garrison play. Not needed for field players.

Player Reviews
Players note: Aetius is “a wall that’s painful to run into.” Damage reflection makes the enemy think twice before rallying. Tip: Especially effective against Attila’s cavalry rallies.
Tips
Place Aetius at key defensive locations. His damage reflection works against every attacker—the more rallies, the more effective it is. Not used in the field.
