What to upgrade for the crew in World of Tanks: perk guide (2026)

What to upgrade for the crew in World of Tanks: perk guide (2026)

Information is current as of August 2026.

A pumped-up crew is half the characteristics of a tank: the same vehicle with a “green” crew and four learned skills plays differently. After a major overhaul of the crew system and the release of update 2.2, which added ten new skills, the question of “what to download” became even more relevant. We analyze priorities for each specialty and ready-made assemblies for equipment classes.

How the skill system works now

  • Skills begin to work immediately, from the first percent of leveling, and the effect grows as you learn. There is no need to wait 100%.
  • Each subsequent skill requires twice as much experience, so the average crew has 3-4 skills - choose them wisely.
  • If you made a mistake, it’s okay: resetting skills at the Tank Academy now costs 100,000 credits without loss of experience, no gold required.
  • Training materials and free experience can be spent directly on crews of premium and promotional vehicles - it is no longer necessary to transfer them to upgraded vehicles.

Commander

  1. Sixth sense - always the first skill. Knowing you've been flagged saves more fights than any other perk in the game.
  2. Sound reconnaissance — warns of enemy artillery fire and shows the direction from which the shell will arrive. Gives you a chance to dodge.
  3. Eagle eye — +2% to review; priority on light and medium tanks, especially if the commander combines the role of radio operator.
  4. Jack of all trades - Replaces wounded crew members with partial effectiveness. Useful for vehicles whose crew often crits.
  5. Mentor — +20% to the experience of the entire crew: take it when the main combat skills are already completed in order to quickly develop the rest.
  6. New in update 2.2: Stimulants (+5% to crew efficiency for 15 seconds after the first aid kit and the ability to use it without the wounded) and Hold the line (+5% efficiency if the enemy has three more vehicles). Both are situational - for experienced players who know how to exchange a first aid kit for a boost.

Gunner

  1. Smooth rotation of the tower - minus 7.5% to the dispersion when turning the turret. The first skill on almost any vehicle with a turret: stabilization is never superfluous.
  2. vindictive — the target remains in the light longer and shows damaged modules faster. An excellent choice for active gaming.
  3. Concentration — reduces the spread of a stationary tank: a skill for tank destroyers and sniper tanks.
  4. Master Weaponsmith — reduces the penalty for a damaged weapon; on vehicles whose guns are often criticized, it is raised in priority.
  5. New 2.2: Duelist (+5% to maximum penetration against targets closer than 50 m - skill of first line heavy units) and lone wolf (−5% spread and aiming time if there are no allies nearby - for flank snipers).

Driver mechanic

  1. Smooth ride - minus 4% to the dispersion when shooting on the move. The main skill for ST and TT who play actively.
  2. Virtuoso — faster body rotation; especially noticeable on slow machines.
  3. King of off-road — less speed loss on soil; priority on maps with “dirt” and for cars with sluggish dynamics.
  4. Reliable layout (formerly “Cleanliness and Order”) - less chance of fire and damage to the chassis; take on tanks that often burn through the engine.
  5. New 2.2: Support in battle (faster chassis repairs near allies) and Impenetrable (+5% to efficiency if more damage is blocked than vehicle durability - an interesting option for armored heavies).

Loader

  1. Intuition — speeds up the change of projectile type in a loaded gun by 60%. The loader's first skill: the ability to instantly switch to gold or a landmine wins duels.
  2. Non-contact ammunition rack — +25% to the strength of the ammunition rack. Mandatory for vehicles with vulnerable ammo (many Soviet and Chinese tanks).
  3. Desperate / Adrenaline - faster reload time at low durability: a situational but life-saving skill.
  4. New 2.2: Second chance(the next projectile charges faster if the previous one did not cause damage) and Knowledge of mechanisms (faster reloading of magazines - important for drum machines and equipment with additional loading).

Radio operator

  1. Radio interception — +3% to review. The first skill of a radio operator on any vehicle, and on an LT it is an absolute priority.
  2. With all my might — after your tank is destroyed, intelligence data is transmitted for a couple more seconds. The second skill is for fireflies.
  3. New 2.2: Threat Search (+2% to vision for 5 seconds after the “Sixth Sense” is triggered - a beautiful synergy with the commander’s first perk) and Battle hardening (reduces the effect of stuns - for those who are bothered by art).

General skills

  • Repair - priority for heavy tanks and everyone who plays on the first line: a knocked down track without repair is a death sentence.
  • Disguise — priority for light tanks and tank destroyers: stealth is directly converted into survivability and exposure.
  • Combat brotherhood — +5% to all skills; Now it works even if not studied by the whole crew, but it gives the maximum in a full assembly. Upgrade when key skills are locked.
  • Firefighting — take it if you travel with extra ration instead of a fire extinguisher.

Ready-made assemblies by class

Heavy tank of the first line

Commander: Sixth Sense → Sound Intelligence → Jack of all trades. Gunner: Smooth turret rotation → Duelist. Mechanical drive: Smooth running → Virtuoso. Loader: Intuition → Non-contact ammo rack. Everyone - Repair as a common priority.

Medium tank

Commander: Sixth Sense → Eagle Eye. Gunner: Smooth rotation of the turret → Grudger. Mechanical drive: Smooth ride → King of off-road. Charger: Intuition → Desperate. Radio operator: Radio interception → Search for threat.

Light tank (reconnaissance)

Everyone - Disguise first general. Commander: Sixth Sense → Eagle Eye. Radio operator: Radio interception → With all his might. Mechanical driver: Virtuoso → King of off-road. Vision is more important than damage: light is your contribution to victory.

Tank destroyer

Commander: Sixth sense → Sound reconnaissance. Gunner: Concentration → Grudge. Charger: Intuition. For everyone - Camouflage, for tower tanks - Repair.

Artillery

Commander: Sixth sense (yes, the artillery needs it too) → Sound reconnaissance. Gunner: all aiming and scattering skills. Loader: Knowledge of mechanisms → Intuition. Radio operator: Combat-hardened.

Common mistakes

  1. Download everything to different crew members. General skills are based on the crew - teach Camouflage and Repair to everyone at once.
  2. Postpone The Sixth Sense. No economic skill can pay for dying in the third minute.
  3. Be afraid of the reset. With a reset for 100,000 credits without loss of experience, experimenting with builds has become cheap - don’t be afraid to rebuild the crew for a new car.
  4. Ignore combined specialties. If the commander combines the radio operator, he has access to the skills of both roles - take this into account in your priorities.
