Minecraft Dungeons 2 Releases September 29: New World, 4-Player Co-op and Exclusive Bonuses

Mojang Studios and Double Eleven have officially announced the release date for Minecraft Dungeons 2. The sequel to the popular action RPG will launch on September 29, 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and will be available on Xbox Game Pass on release day.
A New Threat to the Overworld
The sequel's story revolves around mysterious rifts opening across the Minecraft world. Players will explore uncharted lands and mysterious locations to stop a new evil threatening chaos in both worlds. Developers promise larger-scale battles, new enemies and bosses, as well as unique biomes never before seen in the series.
Unlike the original where the main threat came from the Arch-Illager, the sequel presents an entirely new conflict. According to the creators, "a crisis is brewing in the Overworld, and it needs heroes."
Improved Combat and Customization
Minecraft Dungeons 2 retains the core mechanics of the original but significantly expands character customization options. Players will be able to collect legendary gear, including weapons, armor, artifacts, and talismans, creating unique builds tailored to their playstyle.
The combat system features new combo attacks and special abilities. The trailer shown at Xbox Games Showcase 2026 reveals swirling blue energy, glowing effects, and large-scale clashes with hordes of mobs. Developers note that difficulty has increased, and enemies have become more aggressive and diverse.
Co-op and Cross-Platform Play
The game supports single-player and co-op for up to four players. Both local co-op on a single screen and online play with friends or random partners through matchmaking are available. Cross-platform play will enable joint progression across different platforms.
Pre-orders opened on June 6, 2026. All players who pre-order will receive two hero skins, the Twisted cape, and the Twisted Chicken pet for free. The Deluxe Edition includes the base game, the Soul Pack with four hero skins, the Soul cape, the Blub pet, and two future DLCs.
