Large-scale GTA 6 leak: gameplay, world map and new details a week before the premiere
On August 18, 2026, exactly nine days before the scheduled premiere of Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look on Netflix, the largest leak of game material since the 2022 incident occurred on the Internet. A group called Cyberleek published two gameplay videos and a series of screenshots, including an alleged full map of the game world. Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive responded immediately: materials began to be removed from social networks due to copyright claims, and access to the studio’s official Discord channel was temporarily limited.
What the leaked videos showed
Two videos with a total duration of about two minutes were leaked online. Both feature one of the game's main characters, Jason Duvall. In the first video, Jason is at his home on the shore of a pond, goes out onto the veranda, jumps over the railing and begins to play with a basketball. Each shot scored adds two percent to the focus bar on the interface. The sounds of seagulls can be heard in the background, creating a coastal atmosphere.
The second video demonstrates the driving system and combat mechanics. Jason drives down the highway, listening to the radio, before crashing into a van and getting into a fight with the driver using a wrench. Interface elements are visible on the screen: fuel and engine status indicators of the vehicle, as well as a stamina bar that is depleted during hand-to-hand combat. When the police notice a crime, the wanted system is activated, which can now reach six stars - one more than the maximum in GTA V.
Leonidas World Map
Along with the video, Cyberleek released an image that they claim is a complete map of the state of Leonidas. It shows five counties: Lummox, Kelly, Leonard, Vice Dale and Mariana. Vice Dale County has already appeared in official trailers, but the names Lummox and Mariana have never been seen anywhere before. The map shows a large city on the east coast, presumably Vice City, as well as vast green areas, towns and the Atlantic Ocean coastline.
It is important to note that the authenticity of the card remains in question. Unlike videos that Rockstar actively removes from the Internet, the company did not apply copyright protection measures to the map image. Experts from a fan project to recreate the geography of GTA 6 also expressed doubts about the authenticity of the map, pointing out inconsistencies with previously known data.
Cyberleek Manifesto
The Cyberleek group accompanied the leak with a manifesto in which it called the publication of materials a protest against monetization practices in the gaming industry. According to them, the immediate reason was Rockstar's decision to release GTA 6 only in digital format, without physical discs. The document lists three demands: the cancellation of digital pre-orders until independent reviews are available, a ban on blocking single-player content already present in the game at an additional cost, and a guarantee of offline play in the event of the publisher's servers being closed.
An analysis of the technical characteristics of the leaked card showed that the image was passed through a graphics editor before publication - it contains a built-in watermark associated with a Solana-based cryptocurrency token. This raises further questions about the group's motives.
Industry and community response
The Stop Killing Games Initiative, which has previously sought consumer protection for digital games, has publicly stated that it has nothing to do with Cyberleek's actions and does not support the leak. The head of Take-Two Interactive, Strauss Zelnick, in turn, in a recent interview with CNBC emphasized that the company is not considering the possibility of selling the business, including to the streaming giant Netflix, despite the exclusive partnership to show GTA 6.
According to data from analytics firm Sensor Tower, pre-orders for GTA 6 are at record levels. The $99.99 Ultimate Edition accounts for about 89 percent of all orders—well above the typical premium edition share of 10 to 20 percent. The overall forecast for pre-orders by the time of release is about 25 million copies, which will bring Take-Two about two billion dollars in revenue upfront.

Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look will officially premiere on August 27, 2026 at 3:00 pm ET exclusively on Netflix. Six hours later, at 21:00 on the same day, the video will appear on the official Rockstar Games YouTube channel and on the game website. This event will be the first full demonstration of the project’s gameplay in the entire history of its development.
Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for release on November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles. A PC version is expected at a later date, as per Rockstar's traditional schedule. The game will be released exclusively in digital format, with the standard edition costing $79.99.
