Netflix showed 27 minutes of GTA 6 gameplay—the streaming service couldn't handle the surge in viewers
On August 27, 2026, an exclusive presentation of Grand Theft Auto VI took place on Netflix. The streaming giant showed 27 minutes of gameplay from one of the most anticipated games of the decade—and Netflix’s servers briefly buckled under the surge of viewers.
During the Grand Theft Auto VI Extended Look show, viewers got to see a wealth of new details: the detailed open world of Leonida, gameplay mechanics, the moral choice system, and even social media elements built into the game. Lucia—the second playable protagonist—drew particular attention. Fans had previously expressed concerns that the character might be a secondary one, but the presentation put those doubts to rest.
Key highlights:
- Honor system: An icon appears in the corner of the screen to track the character’s moral decisions
- In-game social media: NPCs stream and comment on what’s happening—just like in the real world
- Nutrition system: Jason and Lucia can gain or lose weight depending on their diet
- Interaction with the world: opening refrigerators, drinking beer, and interactively smoking cigars
The game will be released on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. A PC version is expected to follow later. Rockstar Games has also released more than 20 new screenshots.
As a reminder, this is the first game in the series to feature a female protagonist. Its predecessor, GTA 5, was released back in 2013.
