Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 - release date, platforms and editions

Activision has announced the final release date for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. The new part of the series will be released on October 23, 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC (Steam and Battle.net). Infinity Ward is responsible for development with the support of Beenox, Raven Software, Treyarch and Sledgehammer Games.

Plot and setting

Modern Warfare 4 takes place on the Korean Peninsula: North Korea launches a full-scale invasion that threatens to destabilize the situation throughout the world. The player will take on the role of a South Korean soldier caught in the middle of the conflict, and Captain Price will once again appear in history as a key figure in the special forces. As the campaign progresses, the action will move to other parts of the world, including New York, Paris and Mumbai.

Editions and pre-order

The game will be available in two digital editions. The Standard Edition includes the base campaign and multiplayer, while the Expanded Vault Edition adds Operator Packs, Weapon Blueprints, and the BlackCell Season Battle Pass. In the open multiplayer beta in August, the series updated the record for concurrent players on Steam, so the load on the servers on launch day promises to be serious.

This is the first four-platform part of Call of Duty: for the first time, the publisher is releasing the project simultaneously on PlayStation, Xbox, Switch 2 and PC consoles. The game is not released on Game Pass on release day.
