Mobile Legends: Bang Bang is a mobile MOBA played by over 100 million people each month: fast-paced 5v5 matches lasting 10–15 minutes, simple controls, and a huge roster of heroes. To avoid getting overwhelmed in your very first ranked matches, let’s break down the roles, lanes, current meta heroes, and basic tactics.
Roles and Lanes: Who Goes Where
The map in MLBB is classic: three lanes and the jungle. There are five roles on a team:
- Gold Lane — marksman: farms and deals damage late in the game;
- EXP Lane (experience lane) — fighter or tank: applies pressure and levels up quickly;
- Mid Lane — Mage: controls the center and assists both side lanes;
- Jungle — Assassin or Fighter: farms the jungle, takes down the Turtle and Lord, and ganks;
- Roam — Tank or Support: helps everyone, sets up plays, and initiates team fights.
For beginners, it’s easiest to start as an AD carry or support—these roles carry less responsibility for the game’s pace and make it easier to understand what’s happening on the map.
Best Heroes in the Meta (Season 41, September 2026)
The current meta is resilient: tanks and supports dominate the win rate rankings. Who to keep an eye on:
- Marcel—the game’s win rate leader (around 59%): a specialist support who requires practice but pays off;
- Rafaela — 58% win rate and a simple skill set: the best support for beginners, she heals and speeds up the team;
- Melissa — a top marksman (57%), reliable at any stage of the match;
- Miya — the game’s most popular hero: a classic marksman, perfect for learning the role;
- Gloo and Minotaur — the best tanks of the season (54–55% win rate);
- Argus — a surprisingly strong EXP lane hero: 54% win rate and almost never banned;
- Ling is the best assassin in the meta, but requires practice to master.
Belerick, Eudora, Hirara, Paquito, and Gloo are banned most often—if they make it through the ban phase, feel free to pick them.
Settings and Controls
- Graphics: medium or low + high FPS—a stable 60 frames per second is more important than visuals;
- Skill aiming: enable manual targeting (by holding down the skill button)—this is the key skill that sets a good player apart;
- Target Priority: Set it to “hero with the lowest HP%”—this prevents basic attacks from being wasted on minions;
- Item purchases: Use pre-made builds from top players (the “Pro Builds” button in the pre-match menu)—don’t try to come up with your own at the start.
Emblems
The rune system provides free stat bonuses. Level up emblems suited to your role (mage, marksman, tank, etc.)—the “Impure Rage” talent for mages, “Weakness Finder” for marksmen, and “Concussive Blast” for tanks cover most situations.
Tactics: How to Win Matches
- Farming is more important than kills. A wave of minions gives you just as much gold as a kill—don’t leave your lane just to chase;
- The Turtle and Lord are game-changers. The Turtle (which spawns starting at the 2-minute mark) gives gold to the entire team, and the Lord in the late game is an almost guaranteed push. Help the Jungler secure them;
- Check the minimap every 3–5 seconds. An enemy who’s off the map is almost always coming for you;
- Don’t fight when outnumbered. If there are no allies nearby, retreat—a “heroic” death just feeds the enemy;
- Late game—stick together. After the 10-minute mark, a single death can decide the match: move as a team; don’t spread out across the map.
