Cheaters in CS2 in 2026: what about VAC after Premier season 5 and how to fight (2026)
Information is current as of August 2026.
Cheaters are the #1 pain in Counter-Strike 2 and the most discussed topic in the community. After the startseason five Premier (July 8, 2026)complaints have reached a peak: players are massively reporting an influx of violators and suspect a glitch in the VAC anti-cheat. Let's figure out what's going on, how the anti-cheat works and what you can do.
What's happening with cheaters in CS2 right now?
- Since the beginning of the fifth season of Premier, the VAC system has blocked3717 accounts— by the standards of previous waves of bans, this is very little.
- Players record blatant cases: videos circulate on social networks where prohibited software is used openly, and the match is not interrupted.
- InsiderGabe Followerconnects the situation with Valve’s preparation for a major update of the security system - according to his version, the current problems are temporary.
- There are no VAC changes stated in the official patch notes: Valve did not report either disabling or weakening the anti-cheat.
How does anti-cheat work in CS2?
Protection rests on three pillars:
- VAC (Valve Anti-Cheat)— detects known cheats by signatures and behavior, bans in waves with a delay (so that the authors of the cheats do not understand what exactly they detected). The ban is permanent and cannot be contested.
- VAC Live- a system that can interrupt a match right in the middle of the game if a cheater is detected: the match is canceled, the offender is kicked out with a ban.
- Reports and Overwatch-like analysis— player complaints and automatic analysis of demos feed Valve’s machine learning.
Important nuance: VAC banswaves and delay. A cheater you catch today may get banned weeks later - this is intentional to slow down cheat developers.
How to recognize a cheater in a match
- Stable prefires on positions that could not have been known about (wallhack).
- Sharp “sticking” of the sight to the head through textures (aim).
- Ideal timing of outputs for each peak.
- An account without badges, with 10 hours of play and a win rate of 90%.
But remember: both strong players and smurfs look the same. The final verdict is only after watching the demo.
What to do if you get caught by a cheater
- Send a reportthrough the score table (Tab → right click on the player → Report). Mass reports from one player speed up verification.
- Download demomatch and reconsider the dubious moments on his behalf - make sure that this is not gamesense.
- Don't write in chat or tilt— the cheater needs your reaction.
- Finish the match:If VAC Live is triggered, the match will be voided and leaving will result in a fine.
How to get caught less with cheaters
- Play withPrime statusand a high “Trust Factor”: do not receive reports, do not quit matches, be an active Steam user.
- Peak hours (Friday evening) are the most “cheat” time; morning and afternoon matches are cleaner.
- Third-party leagues (FACEIT) with their own anti-cheat are the cleanest option for serious gaming.
Player reviews
Denis, 18k Premier:“After the start of the fifth season, there were three obvious cheaters in ten matches. Previously, there were at least temporary bans, but now there is silence. We are waiting for the big VAC update, which Gabe Follower writes about.”
Oksana:“Switched to FACEIT - heaven and earth. Yes, they play harder, but at least they play fairly. I’ll come back to Premier when the anti-cheat is fixed.”
m9_tiger:“I reported the same thing for two weeks. Yesterday I received a message that, based on my reports, a player was banned and my rating was returned. The system works, but slowly.”
Comment analysis
Discussion of anti-cheat in July-August 2026 divided the community into two camps.Optimistsare holding on to Gabe Follower's version of an upcoming major security update - "I'd like to believe it."Skepticsthey answer briefly: “nothing new” - and remember that similar waves of complaints happen every season. The third persistent theme isfalse bans: There are known cases when Valve has massively removed erroneous VAC bans, so “ban = 100% fault” doesn’t work either. Community midpoint: cheaters are the pain of any online shooter, but right now the situation is worse than usual, and the ball is in Valve's court.
By the way: if suspicions “he’s a cheater” arise in your mind too often, check your side -maybe it's a matter of lags and hit registration, and the basis for a pure game is in the article aboutCS2 settings.
