Fans released Open77: Cyberpunk 2077 turned into multiplayer with RP servers
Fans have made the single-player Cyberpunk 2077 online: this week Open77, an unofficial multiplayer mod that turns Night City into a shared online world, entered alpha testing. The announcement with a gameplay trailer appeared in early November, and now players can log into each other’s servers.
CD Projekt RED has never added multiplayer to the game, so Open77 is being built by enthusiasts almost from scratch. Logically, the project is closest to FiveM from the world of GTA V: it is a platform on which anyone can set up their own server and set its rules themselves.
What Open77 can do
- Role servers are the most popular format: professions, economics, own laws of a particular server and unique roleplaying scenarios.
- Cooperative exploration of Night City - walking around the city in the company of friends instead of V alone.
- Races and world bosses are massive activities designed for groups of players.
- Own servers - a dedicated server works independently of the game and supports Windows x64 and Linux x64.
What is needed to start and what are the risks?
To connect, you will need a licensed copy of Cyberpunk 2077 and the Phantom Freedom add-on. The developers honestly warn: the mod is in alpha, so bugs, crashes and API changes are the norm at the current stage, and some of the server mechanics are still being finalized.
The potential of the project is great: if the team brings Open77 to a stable version, Night City will become truly shared for the first time in five years since its release. You can follow the development of the mod on the official website of the project.
