Hunter's Moon released on PS5: folklore horror about a witch hunt in England in the 17th century
On October 26, Hunter's Moon, a chamber folk horror game from indie studio Twin Swans, first shown in September at State of Play, was released on PlayStation 5. The game takes you to England in the 17th century, in the midst of real witch hunts: the main character is a woman accused of witchcraft, who will have to survive one fateful night and get out of the village, where every resident is ready to inform on her.
One night in a village on the edge
Hunter's Moon is a first-person horror game with an emphasis on stealth and observation. The heroine hides from witch hunters, eavesdrops on the conversations of local residents - people exhausted by war and crop failure - and gradually reveals the secrets of a settlement that is teetering on the brink of collapse. Masquerade “moomers” in folk costumes glide through the scenes of the holiday: under the eerie atmosphere of stylized folklore, not only the life of the era is hidden, but also the personal history of the accused.
The developers describe the project as a one-night narrative adventure - without grinding and an open world, but with a tight script and memorable secondary characters. The Twin Swans studio has not had any notable releases before, so Hunter's Moon is its first major work, which immediately received the status of a PS5 console exclusive.
Timing for Halloween
The release took place in the last week of October - the height of the “scary” season, when folk horror films traditionally gain an audience. In a PS5 library that has seen few spooky tales of its own this year, Hunter's Moon is a notable addition ahead of the holiday.
