Final Fantasy Resonance - Pixel JRPG from Square Enix will be released on October 22

Square Enix, together with the LANCARSE studio, are releasing a new part of the legendary series: on October 22, 2026, Final Fantasy Resonance will be released - a turn-based Japanese role-playing game in a pixel art style, reminiscent of the first games in the franchise.

Setting and gameplay

The player awaits a journey with comrades bound by the bonds of fate, and a unique mechanic for summoning visions - spiritual reflections that help in battles. The combat system follows the classic turn-based scheme, but with modern additions such as combined skills. The main line of the story is dedicated to the force that threatens to destroy the entire world, and the truth about its origin.

In addition to Square Enix, the LANCARSE studio, known for its collaboration with major Japanese publishers, is working on the project. The pixelated aesthetic is combined here with a cinematic presentation of scenes and a modern soundtrack - an approach that has worked well in recent years with retro appeals like Octopath Traveler and similar JRPGs.

The release is scheduled for October 22, 2026. The project comes out as the series' anniversary approaches, making it one of the most notable Japanese releases of the fall.
