The Road to Switch 2
The announcement of the Elden Ring port for Nintendo Switch 2 was made back in April 2025 during the Nintendo Direct presentation dedicated to the new console. The release was originally scheduled for 2025, but in October 2025, FromSoftware and Bandai Namco announced a delay to 2026 for additional performance optimization.
Early demos shown at gamescom 2025 and Milan Games Week 2025 raised concerns among fans regarding frame rate stability in handheld mode. However, according to the latest tests, the final version shows significant improvements compared to earlier builds.
About the Game
Elden Ring is an open-world action RPG created by Hidetaka Miyazaki with contributions from world-renowned author George R.R. Martin, writer of the "A Song of Ice and Fire" saga. The game received over 400 "Game of the Year" nominations and sold more than 30 million copies worldwide.
The Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, released on June 20, 2024, expands on the original's storyline and transports players to the mysterious Realm of Shadow, where they will face new bosses, locations, weapons, and abilities.
Additionally, a spin-off titled Elden Ring Nightreign is in development, focused on cooperative multiplayer. The release date for the project has not yet been announced, including for Nintendo Switch 2.
Film Adaptation
The success of Elden Ring has led to the production of a feature film adaptation. The live-action movie is being directed by Alex Garland ("Ex Machina", "Annihilation"), who is also working on the screenplay. The premiere is scheduled for March 3, 2028.
