Elden Ring Nightreign: 5 million sales in 3 months, player reviews and plans for DLC (2026)

Information is current as of August 2026.

Elden Ring Nightreign continues to amaze: three months after its release, the cooperative spin-off from FromSoftware sold more than 5 million copies. Bandai Namco confirmed the figure in a recent financial report, noting that the game became the studio's fastest-selling title since the original Elden Ring.

5 million sales in 3 months

The release took place at the end of May 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Already in the first week the game sold 2 million copies, and by the end of June it crossed the 3.5 million mark. Now, in August 2026, the publisher officially reported 5 million copies sold, including digital and retail sales.

PeriodSales
First week2.0 million copies
End of June 20263.5 million copies
August 20265.0 million copies

Analysts note that the result is all the more impressive because Nightreign is not a full-fledged sequel, but a session co-op project based on the Elden Ring engine and assets. The average online on Steam remains at the level of 180–220 thousand players at its peak.

What is the game

Nightreign is a three-player co-op roguelike. Each session lasts three game days: during the day, the squad explores the map of Limveld, leveling up and looking for equipment, and at night they hold back waves of enemies and fight the boss. System Days and Nights - the main mechanics of the game: every night the ring of the safe zone narrows, and the enemies become stronger.

8 character classes

  • Wilder — a universal melee fighter with a grappling hook;
  • Guardian — a tank with a huge shield and the ability to cover allies;
  • Iron Paw (Ironeye) - archer with well-aimed shots and traps;
  • Duchess (Duchess) — a fencer with damage repetition mechanics;
  • Raider- a heavy warrior with a two-handed weapon;
  • Hermit (Recluse) - a magician who collects energy from the attributes of the elements;
  • Executor — assassin with parry in Sekiro style;
  • Revenant - A summoner who resurrects fallen enemies.

Player reviews

The community is divided, but the overall tone is positive. In the Telegram channel "Souls-like Russia" (45 thousand subscribers) write: “Best co-op of the year. Three days on the map fly by like one evening, and the bosses of the Night are a pure thrill for those who missed Malenia.” On the Discord server "Zamogile" (120 thousand participants) note: “Matchmaking with randoms is a lottery, but with friends it’s 10 out of 10. I’ve already played 200 hours.”

They praise the dynamics of the races, the variety of classes and the final bosses - the Lords of the Night. They criticize the lack of cross-play between platforms at the start (it was added only in the July patch) and shader stutters on PC.

Criticism of microtransactions

The main scandal of the summer was the appearance of an in-game store. In the July update, FromSoftware added paid character skins and emotes for Runes of Night, a currency that can be purchased with real money. The players took this painfully: “At first it was 40 dollars per game, now there are also skins for 10 bucks. Miyazaki, what's going on? - writes one of the top posts on Reddit. The studio responded that all paid content is only cosmetic and does not affect the balance, and the proceeds will be used to support servers and develop DLC.

DLC Forsaken Hollows

At the summer presentation, Bandai Namco announced the first major addition - Forsaken Hollows, scheduled for release in November 2026. DLC will add:

  • a new map of the Abandoned Lowlands with a unique weather cycle;
  • two new classes - Frost Witch and Bone Knight;
  • four new Night Lords, including a returning boss from Dark Souls 3;
  • “Endless Night” mode for hardcore squads.

The add-on will be included in the season pass, and owners of the base game will be able to purchase it separately. Judging by the pace of sales and plans for content, Nightreign will remain the main cooperative souls-like on the market for a long time.
