Earth Defense Force 5 will be released on Nintendo Switch 2 - port release date
On October 8, 2026, Earth Defense Force 5 will be released on Nintendo Switch 2, a port of the action game about humanity’s struggle with giant insects and aliens. The release of the project on Nintendo consoles became known from the September presentation of Nintendo Direct 2026.
Earth Defense Force 5 was originally released in 2019 on PlayStation 4 in Japan, and then made its way to Western consoles and PC. Events take place in 2022: without warning, giant beetles, alien ships and multi-meter monsters hit the Earth, and EDF soldiers must retake the planet using machine guns, grenade launchers, fighters and combat robots.
What does the game offer?
The project offers more than 100 missions, four classes of fighters - Ranger, Winged Gunner, Dreadnought and Engineer - support for four-player co-op and the series' signature intentionally bold tone, where entire city blocks crumble under the blows of giant creatures.
The Switch 2 port will be the fifth part's first appearance on a Nintendo platform and, judging by the date, will be released simultaneously with the Western release of Mission Pack 1 and Mission Pack 2 on other platforms.
