BlizzCon 2026: announcement of Diablo V, World of Warcraft Forever and return of StarCraft - main news
On September 12, the opening ceremony of BlizzCon 2026 took place at the Anaheim Convention Center - the Blizzard festival returned after a three-year break and produced one of the most intense programs in the history of the studio. The announcements affected almost all key universes: Diablo, World of Warcraft, StarCraft, Overwatch, Hearthstone and Warcraft III.
Diablo V and the future of the series
The main surprise of the evening is the official announcement of Diablo V. The action will take place in a world where Sanctuary has fallen, the heroes are defeated, and Diablo has won. The release is scheduled for spring 2029. For Diablo IV, the Legacy of Hell Season kicks off today, September 15, with the return of Deckard Cain and the Lords of Dread, and a new class, the Amazon, will be added to the game in the first half of 2027. On the same day, Diablo IV was released on Nintendo Switch 2 as part of the Age of Hatred Collection. There will be no more new additions for Diablo IV - the team is switching to development of Diablo V.
World of Warcraft: Forever and The Last Titan
A third client has been announced for World of Warcraft - World of Warcraft: Forever. The project develops the idea of Classic+: vanilla Azeroth, three new zones, more than a thousand tasks, nine dungeons and a new race, Skyborn. The beta will run from September 17 to October 21, with release scheduled for November 4, 2026. The finale of the Soul of the World saga - The Last Titan expansion - will be released in 2027, and patch 12.2 “Eclipse” will continue the events of Midnight in the coming months.
StarCraft is back
Blizzard has officially brought back StarCraft: producer Dan Hay, known for the Far Cry series, is working on the new game. It is an open world shooter set in the Koprulu sector and is scheduled for release in the spring of 2030.
Other announcements include Overwatch's new Doctrine Support Vampire hero (Season 5 launches October 6), the Warcraft III: Reforged - Forsaken Kingdom campaign now available to players, Xal'atath in Heroes of the Storm, and Hearthstone's Reign of the Black Empire expansion (October 20). Blizzard has also confirmed the development of an animated Diablo series with Netflix.
