Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve from Bandai Namco Aces studio was released in early October on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S and immediately set several records for the series. Peak online on Steam exceeded 52 thousand concurrent players: for comparison, the seventh part, Skies Unknown, collected just under 14 thousand at the start.
Critics also warmly welcomed the return of sky battles. On Metacritic, the PS5 version holds a score of 88, OpenCritic records an 88 out of 100, with 98% of reviewers recommending the game. User reviews on Steam stopped at "very positive" - about 82% approval.
What's new in Wings of Theve
The eighth part develops the formula of the series: to the cinematic story missions, co-pilot commands, mid-air refueling, as well as full takeoff and landing have been added - without the game turning into a hardcore simulator. The press separately praises the graphics, sound and multiplayer.
PC version problems
The start was not without difficulties: some owners of the PC version encountered technical problems, for which Bandai Namco officially apologized and promised patches. This did not stop the game from having the best start in the history of the franchise in digital stores.
