Star Wars Outlaws — Everything You Need to Know About the Game in 2026: DLC, Subscriptions, and Whether It's Worth Playing
This information is current as of September 2026.
Star Wars Outlaws is the first truly open-world game in the Star Wars universe from Ubisoft Massive (The Division). The game was released on August 30, 2024, and received a lukewarm reception at launch, but two years of patches, two story DLCs, and its release on subscription services have turned its reputation around: today, Outlaws is considered an underrated gem. Here’s a look at where the game stands now and whether it’s worth playing in 2026.
What Is Star Wars Outlaws About?
The story takes place between *The Empire Strikes Back* and *Return of the Jedi*. You play as Kay Vess—a small-time con artist from Cantonica who botches a heist and is put on a death list by syndicate boss Zerek Besh. To survive, Kay assembles a team for the most daring heist in the Outer Rim.
No Jedi, no Force—this is a story about the criminal underworld: four syndicates (the Paikis, the Hutt Syndicate, Crimson Dawn, and the Ashigi Flame), a reputation system, smuggling, sabacc, and speeder chases. Kay’s faithful companion is Nix, a little creature who steals weapons, distracts enemies, and presses buttons.
Planets and the World
- Toshara—a new planet created for the game: savannas, winds, and dusty cantinas;
- Kijimi—the snow-covered hideout of the thieves from *Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker*;
- Tatooine—yes, with Mos Eisley and Jabba;
- Akiva—jungles and droid factories;
- plus space: free-roam flights between planets, skirmishes with fighter squadrons, and looting in orbit.
DLC and Updates
| Content | Release Date | What it’s about |
|---|---|---|
| Wild Card | November 21, 2024 | The Sabacc Tournament with Lando Calrissian—the best game expansion according to players |
| A Pirate's Fortune | May 15, 2025 | Search for pirate treasure with Hondo Onaka; about 5–7 hours |
| Switch 2 version | September 4, 2025 | Gold Edition with all patches; 81 on Metacritic—higher than the PS5 and Xbox versions |
Free patches over the past two years have revamped the stealth and combat systems (the main complaints at launch), added the ability to carry heavy weapons as a secondary weapon, introduced a photo mode, and included dozens of quality-of-life improvements. Current version: 1.7 (June 2026).
Where to play in 2026
- Game Pass — available via subscription starting in January 2026 (Ultimate and PC Game Pass): the easiest way to try it out;
- PS Plus Extra/Premium—added to the catalog in May 2026;
- Purchase — the base version regularly drops to 17–20 euros during sales; the Gold Edition (with all DLC) — up to 40 euros.
Is it worth playing in 2026?
Yes—especially if you love “Star Wars” and missed the game at launch. The 77 rating on Metacritic doesn’t reflect the game’s current state: after the Outlaws patches, it’s a beautiful, atmospheric life simulator for a space rogue, featuring the best realization of the “be Han Solo” fantasy in gaming history. The story will take 20–25 hours to complete, and a full playthrough will take 40–50 hours.
Some weaknesses remain: repetitive side quests and a predictable storyline. But the music (which earned a Grammy nomination), the duo of Kay and Nix, and the syndicate reputation system elevate the game to a “must-play for fans” status.
