S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: walkthrough secrets — codes, stashes and hidden endings (2026)
This information is current as of August 2026.
In S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl, the developers at GSC Game World have hidden dozens of secrets: codes for doors and safes, hiding spots, hidden quests, and even several endings that are easy to miss. This guide compiles the main secrets for completing the game—without them, you’ll only experience half of what the game has to offer.
Secret Endings: How Not to Miss the Ending of Your Dreams
The game has four main endings, and they depend not on a single choice at the end, but on a chain of decisions made throughout the campaign:
- Key branching points include your relationships with the “Iskra” and “Varda” factions, the fates of Skar and the Sheriff, and the choice you make in the final mission at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant.
- To unlock the “good” ending, don’t burn any bridges: complete quests for both sides until the game explicitly warns you of the point of no return.
- Before the final mission, make a separate save—you can view all endings from a single save point.
Door and Safe Codes
There are many locked rooms with valuable loot in the Zone. The codes are usually hidden in nearby notes, but we’ve compiled the most useful ones:
| Location | Code | What's Inside |
|---|---|---|
| Western Checkpoint, Small Zone | 0690 | PSZ-12V “Bulat” Suit |
| Unfinished pipe at “Gradirni” | 2777 | Resident Evil Easter Egg and Loot |
| Safes at gang bases | Look for notes nearby | Money, ammo, artifacts |
Tip: Always search corpses and tables near locked doors—codes are almost always found in notes within a single building.
Journalists’ Stashes
Owners of the Deluxe and Ultimate Editions get markers for journalists’ stashes on the map, but their contents are available to everyone—you just need to know the locations. Inside, you’ll find unique weapons and gear that aren’t available anywhere else. The caches are scattered across all major regions: Zalesye, the Dump, Rostok, Zaton, and Pripyat. Look for distinctive green backpacks in hard-to-reach places: on rooftops, in wells, and behind anomaly fields.
Hidden quests not marked on the map
- The quest with the icon in the Poppy Field—give the icon to Pomor and receive a unique AR416.
- The Bakery in Rostok—hold your ground in line for fresh bread with Kirpich: a short but atmospheric scene with a reward.
- Conversations at bases—many side quests start with overheard NPC conversations by the campfire. Take your time: walk slowly past groups of stalkers and listen.
Secrets of Anomalies and Artifacts
- After each emission, anomalies “refresh”—new artifacts appear in anomaly fields that have already been cleared. Return to the bolded fields after each emission.
- Artifacts will respawn: if a field is “empty,” just come back later.
- Some anomalies are active only at night—in the dark, the detector highlights them much better.
Hidden mechanics not covered in the tutorial
- Bolt ammo is infinite—don’t be afraid to use them to check every suspicious spot.
- You can shoot at enemies’ weapons: a damaged barrel will jam at the worst possible moment for your opponent.
- You can survive a radiation surge in any sturdy shelter, not just the ones marked on the map.
- Short, stocky mutants (snorkes, boars) have trouble reaching those who have climbed onto a rock or the roof of a car.
A Quick Start for Experts
If you want to speed up the prologue: first, go get the “Bulat” suit (code 0690), then the “Thunderberry” in the electrical anomaly, and the pistol upgrades at the first location. Within an hour of gameplay, you’ll have mid-campaign gear.
