Characters Are the Game’s Main Currency
Star Rail is a gacha game, and its heart lies in its heroes. March 7 is a cheerful archer wielding ice and a camera—your first line of defense. Dan Heng is a mysterious wind spearman with a dragon-filled past. Later, they’ll be joined by dozens of heroes: the charismatic General Jing Yuan, the deadly Kafka, the star of the stage Robin, the fox general Feixiao, and many others. HoYoverse has its own signature style: each character features detailed animations, a backstory, and a design on par with an anime blockbuster.
Practical advice: don’t waste jade (premium currency) on standard banners. Save it for event heroes you really like—the “guarantee” from a limited banner carries over to other banners, and that’s the golden rule for survival in the gacha economy.
Paths and Elements: The Basis of Team Building
Each hero belongs to a Path (Hunt—single-target damage, Erudition—area damage, Harmony—buffs, Non-Existence—debuffs, Preservation—shields, Abundance—healing, Destruction—hybrids) and one of the seven elements. A basic party setup for beginners: main DPS + buffer/debuffer + second DPS or support + healer or tank. Pay attention to enemy weaknesses: breaking a shield with a vulnerable element reduces their defense and grants bonus effects.
Painless Leveling
- Level and Traits are more important than Relics. First, level up your character, Light Cones, and key Traits (skills)—Relics can be farmed later and endlessly.
- Don’t level up everyone. Focus on 4–6 heroes: experience resources are scarce in the first few weeks.
- “Simulated Universe” and “Pure Fiction” are sources of free jade: check in every week.
