Forza Horizon 6 — Everything You Need to Know About the 2026 Game: Japan, PS5, DLCs, and Whether It's Worth Playing
Forza Horizon 6 is the sixth installment in the iconic racing series from Playground Games and Xbox Game Studios. The game was released on May 19, 2026, for PC (Steam, Microsoft Store) and Xbox Series X|S, and immediately became one of the biggest releases of the year. Let’s take a look at what makes the new “Forza” great, what the PlayStation 5 version is like, and whether it’s worth playing right now.
Forza Horizon 6: Release Date and Platforms
The game was first announced at the Tokyo Game Show in September 2025, and the first gameplay footage was shown at Xbox Developer Direct on January 22, 2026. The release took place in two phases:
- May 15, 2026—early access for Premium Edition owners (4 days early);
- May 19, 2026 — full release on PC and Xbox Series X|S, including Game Pass (Ultimate and PC Game Pass).
The launch was a big hit, though not without its share of mishaps: nine days before release, Microsoft accidentally uploaded an unencrypted 155 GB build to Steam, and the game was cracked even before the review embargo was lifted. This, however, had almost no impact on sales—Forza Horizon 6 topped the Steam sales chart even before its release, and its Metacritic score settled at 90. It is one of the highest-rated games of 2026.
Japan and the Largest Tokyo in the Series’ History
For the first time, Forza Horizon 6 is set in Japan—a location fans have been asking for since the very first game. Tokyo is at the center of the map: the urban area here is roughly five times larger than any city in previous Horizon games. Neon-lit night districts, docks, suburbs, the winding mountain roads of Tohoku, the coastline, and Mount Fuji on the horizon—the map is the most densely packed in the series’ history.
Key features include:
- 550+ cars available from the start—ranging from JDM classics like the Nissan Skyline and Toyota Supra to modern supercars. The cover cars are the Toyota GR GT Prototype and the Land Cruiser 250;
- changing seasons—cherry blossoms in spring, snow-covered mountain passes in winter, and falling leaves in fall;
- Estates—buy real estate with customizable garages where you can display your collection;
- EventLab and Horizon CoLab—an event editor with full-fledged online co-op: you can build tracks and entire neighborhoods together with friends;
- Full Russian localization of the interface.
The game is well optimized: the minimum bar is lower than most 2026 AAA titles, but 4K with ray tracing demands top-tier hardware. And this is the first Horizon where ray tracing works in real time during races.

When will Forza Horizon 6 be released on the PS5?
Microsoft initially promised a PlayStation 5 version “later in 2026.” However, in late August 2026, The Verge journalist Tom Warren reported that the PS5 port would most likely not be released this year—Xbox is reevaluating its multiplatform strategy. No one has officially announced a cancellation; the game is still listed on the PS Store with a “Wishlist” button, but there’s no exact release date.
If you only have a PlayStation, expect it in 2027. In the meantime, Forza Horizon 5 is available on the PS5: it launched on Sony’s console on April 29, 2025, and brought in about $300 million for Microsoft—it was this success that led the publisher to initially plan a quick port of the sixth installment.
Editions and Prices
- Standard Edition ($69.99)—game only;
- Deluxe Edition ($99.99) — the game, Car Pass (30 cars, one per week until December 8, 2026), and Welcome Pack;
- Premium Edition ($119.99) — everything listed above plus early access, VIP Membership (double credits and weekly super spins), the Time Attack and Italian Passion Car Pack sets, and two future major expansions.

What’s Next: Expansions and Support
The game follows a signature seasonal schedule—every four weeks, a new playlist series is released with exclusive rewards. By September 2026, the game will already be in its fourth season. Ahead are two major paid expansions featuring new locations (similar to Fortune Island and Hot Wheels from previous installments), but Playground Games has not yet revealed any dates or settings. The Car Pass will continue to add one car per week through December.
Is Forza Horizon 6 worth playing in 2026?
Definitely yes, if you have a PC or Xbox. It’s the best arcade racing game on the market: a vast and beautiful Japan, hundreds of cars, smooth online play, and regular free updates. For newcomers to the series, Forza Horizon 5 is also a good choice—it’s regularly on sale at deep discounts, and its online community is still active. PS5 owners will just have to wait and hope the port isn’t canceled altogether.
