Onimusha: Way of the Sword was released on PC and consoles - the first part of the series in 20 years

On September 4, 2026, Capcom released Onimusha: Way of the Sword , a new part of the cult series of action games about samurai and demonic creatures. This is the first full return of the franchise after a hiatus of almost twenty years. The game is available on PC (Steam, Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2.

Plot and setting

The action takes place in feudal Japan. The main character was the legendary samurai Miyamoto Musashi , armed with the mystical Oni glove. Players will have to fight not only human opponents, but also the demonic creatures of Genma , which threaten the entire country.

Combat system

The developers created a combat system in the spirit of modern slashers with soulslike elements. Fights require attentiveness, precise timing and the ability to read enemy attacks. Musashi's arsenal includes several sword styles, special techniques and the magical abilities of the Oni glove.

According to the first players, the demo version, presented earlier at Steam Next Fest and Paris Games Week, made a strong impression with the quality of combat mechanics and atmosphere.

On the day of release, the game collected more than 700 reviews on Steam, of which about 76% were positive. Peak online on Steam was more than 43 thousand concurrent players.
